Auditions for all JR/SR cast members for The Spongebob Musical: Youth Edition will be happening March 2-6 2025 on your regular scheduled rehearsal/class night. Auditions consist of one short monologue and one short song with or without (your choice) a musical backing track (accompaniment/performance version), chosen from the lists below.

If you’re back to MYTP, you know the drill. If you’re new, welcome and don’t fret! Below is some information regarding your audition: What needs to be prepared and how to go about doing it. Remember: Act big, sing proud and be confident!

For your audition you will need to prepare: (both memorized)

• Song. See below for specific songs to select for your audition. All audition songs will be performed WITH or WITHOUT (your choice) a musical backing track (accompaniment/performance version). The main focus of your song is to show us your singing abilities, but adding in a character and movement/actions while you’re singing is an added bonus!
• Monologue. See below for specific monologues to select for your audition. This monologue should show us how you can play a different character. Choose a monologue that is different from yourself and create a new character out of it. Don’t be afraid to act really big and be enthusiastic! Want to go above and beyond? Add actions, put on an accent or come with a costume!

Auditions can be scary, but there is nothing to worry about! Everyone will join us in the the audition room (just you and your directors), but if you feel uncomfortable performing one or the other or both requirements, you can choose not to.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask your instructors. They are there to help!

FRENCH NARRATOR
Ahh…bonjour, salut and welcome to this quiet corner of the ocean floor. It is here we find the sub-marine habitat known as Bikini Bottom. Let us observe now as the sun rises on a new nautical day. And here…a pineapple? This fruit is home to one of the most fascinating sea creatures of all: Aplysina fistualis…the yellow sponge.

MAYOR OF BIKINI BOTTOM
Ladies and gentlefish, if this mountain erupts, orange rivers of steaming lava will obliterate all we know and love. But don’t worry, your government has everything under control. In the meantime, all citizens must return home and remain indoors. We only have until sundown tomorrow. But I will lead us through this crisis by setting meetings to encourage dialogue about drafting proposals for eventual action. Does anyone here have an actual plan to propose? Yes, enthusiastic sea star?

PERCH PERKINS
Breaking news: this is something we should worry about! Smoke has been sighted at the top of Mount Humongous… the long-slumbering volcano of doom! And now, a live statement from the mayor of our town.

SANDY
That volcano is gonna erupt, as sure as a rhinestone cowboy at a disco redeo. And it’s gonna happen at sundown – tomorrow!! I’m serious as a guacamole shortage at a taco party! The science is clear. At sundown tomorrow, a cataclysmic eruption will completely destroy Bikini Bottom. The end is nigh.

PLANKTON
I have a new scheme, Karen! I’ll make everyone love my chum burgers through the power of hypnosis! If I can trap them all in one place…When fish are scared, they school together! So we just have to keep them scared. Then I can trap them in one place and hypnotize them in bulk! First though, I need to shut down this squirrel.

SPONGEBOB
This will be the end…unless I can stop it. Gotta get my team together! You are not a simple sponge – You are not a simple sponge…you are not a simple sponge… Get ready, Patrick! We’re gonna climb the volcano and use science to stop it from blowing. Are you with me?
